Dollhouse Makeover - The Living Room

Dollhouse Makeover - The Living Room

This was the one room that took the longest to complete, as I didn't just redo the room itself, but also ended up building a chair, table, lamp and fireplace and made some pillows and cushions.

What I used:

Pillowcase that I bought from Pep Home

Stuffing from an old pillow

Modge

Scrapbooking paper

Small craft sticks

Grey paint

Carpet cut off

Fabric cut offs

Bottle caps

Wood from old doll furniture

Toothpicks

Wooden bead

Green felt

Laminating pouch

Printed pictures

Cardboard

Dishwashing sponges

Again, I modged a scrapbook paper to the back wall to serve as a feature wall. I cut some craft sticks in half and painted them grey and glued them along the bottom of the wall.

Lucky for me, I had a friend who came to spend the day with me, and she helped me to make the pillows for the couch. The couch was one I bought for my daughter a while ago - it was made simply out of wood, so we touched it up a bit by upgrading the look with some newly made pillows. I also made a few extra throw pillows from cut off fabric I had and stuffed them with the stuffing from an old pillow.

I then took to building a fireplace. I cut out some cardboard for a frame and glued craft sticks all around it for an even finish. Afterwards I painted the whole thing white and glued it to the wall of the living room. I cut some toothpicks into smaller pieces and placed them along the bottom of the inside of the fireplace to make it look like wood logs.

Using thick pieces of cardboard, I drew the outline of a chair, cut it out and glued a few layers together to make it more sturdy. I then glued the whole frame together and painted the chair white.

I had some lovely ribbon with a leaf pattern, which I glued along the sides of the chair to cover the layers of board for a more even finish. I cut a dishwashing sponge in half and covered the two pieces with cut off fabric and placed them on the chair for a neat upholstered look.

I used an old bottle cap and painted it white. I cut craft sticks into smaller pieces and painted them white. Making a hole in the middle of the bottle cap, I threaded a piece of rope through and made a solid knot at the bottom to make sure that the cap stays put. I then glued the painted craft sticks around the bottle cap to make it look like a chandelier. Finally, I glued the end of he rope to the roof of the room.

Using a large wooden bead, I glued some leaves which I cut from the green felt into the threading hole, creating a pot plant. I also cut the carpet to size and placed it in the room, with another piece of round fabric which I cut for a smaller rug and placed it in the middle.

Breaking some of the old wooden barbie furniture apart, I repainted one of the pieces, glued some craft sticks along the bottom for feet and created a brand new coffee table.

Using a larger bottle cap, I painted it black and covered it with the same fabric I used to make the pillows for the couch. With quite a struggle, I managed to glue three craft sticks to the bottom of the cap in a triangular shape, allowing the newly created lamp to stand.

Once again, I cut some old curtain fabric and glued it over the window with a valance that I made from small craft sticks. I also used some craft sticks to make some small shelves for the wall and placed some of the kitchen goodies my daughter already had on them. Lastly, I printed beautiful colored leaf pictures, laminated them and stuck them to the wall as well.

Even though this room took up more than a day to complete, I was absolutely worth it and my daughter absolutely loves this room in her remodeled dollhouse.
